The GEOSLN Hazard API is the base infrastructure for GEOSLN's future service offerings, and it's still in active development. We built it first as a product testbed, with real accounts, payments and jobs running in production, that our future software and API offerings can build on. It's self-service: the map works without an account, and creating one gets you an API key and credits. Here's what's available today, and where we're headed next.
Free: 5 reports a day on the map
No account needed: the hazard map gives every visitor 5 flood risk reports a day. Search an address or paste coordinates, or click the map, then run the report: you get the ten, one-hundred, and five-hundred-year flood hazard classes (0–5, from the European Commission JRC global flood hazard maps) plus a short AI-written summary of those three classes in plain language. If a report fails, it doesn't count against your five.
Credits: the API, bulk scoring, and conversion
Buy a credit pack (no subscription) to keep running reports on the map and to use the API from your own code:
- Single-point reports:
GET /gis/risk/, 1 credit per report. The hazard classes come back at once; the AI summary follows a moment later. - Bulk scoring:
POST /gis/risk/bulk/takes up to 1,000 records per job: coordinates, one-line addresses, or address parts, with your own row IDs and columns passed through. You download one report as GeoJSON or CSV. 1 credit per record, and only for records that score; a bad address or a point outside our coverage isn't charged. - Legacy GIS format conversion: Shapefile (
.shp), KML (.kml), GeoPackage (.gpkg), and File Geodatabase (.gdb) to GeoJSON, up to 95 MB per upload. 1 credit per conversion, charged only if it succeeds. For larger files, contact us and we'll process them directly.
Bulk scoring and conversion run as jobs: you get a job back immediately, check its status, and download the result when it's done (results are kept for 24 hours).
Your account
Everything about your credits and access lives in your account on geosln-api.com:
- API key: create it under Account → API key. The full key is shown once, so store it in your password manager or your app's environment variables; we never send keys by email. Generating a new key stops the old one immediately and emails you a notice.
- Credit history: every purchase, report, and job, one line each, with what it finally cost. Failed work shows as not charged.
- Payments: each purchase with its Stripe receipt.
Where this is headed
The CSV report from bulk scoring was the first step toward something bigger: one report that takes the spreadsheet or GIS file you already have and returns it with our hazard data joined on, ready to share, instead of two datasets you have to reconcile yourself. Next we're adding more environmental layers to that same report.
Who it's for
We want people who aren't geospatial professionals to be able to use the product directly, and to make site screening simpler for consultants, analysts and real estate offices. If you need something the API doesn't cover yet, GEOSLN consulting can build it around your data.
Create an account and start querying, or read the API docs for the full request/response schemas.
